Genetic Testing For Urologic Cancers

Certain genetic variants can make your risk of developing cancer significantly higher than that of the average person. urologist dalton gaDr. Charles Idom Jr.
Dr. Charles B. Idom Jr. grew up in a small town in East Texas. He obtained a Bachelor of Science in physics as an undergraduate and a Masters of Science in physics from the University of Mississippi in 1989. Dr. Idom obtained his Doctor of Medicine from the University of Mississippi Medical Center in 1994. He completed his internship and residency at the Department of Surgery and Urology from the University of Tennessee Health Science Center in Memphis, TN.

Dr. Idom has been integral in advancing Urologic care in our area since his arrival to north Georgia in 2001. He began performing the first minimally invasive prostate brachytherapy and cryosurgical procedures for Urologic malignancies at Hamilton Medical Center in 2002. He also spearheaded the effort to establish a robotics program at Hamilton Medical Center in 2009, which continues to grow today.

Dr. Idom is an outdoorsman who enjoys hunting and fishing. He is also an avid guitar player. He also enjoys local high school and college sports, especially football. Dr. Idom’s greatest joy comes from spending time with his wife Dawn and their three children Olivia, Emily and Charlie and attending his church, Christ Church Presbyterian.

Dr. Joseph Veys was born in Buffalo, NY. He was raised in Cincinnati, Ohio, where he was a valedictorian and National Merit Scholar at Sycamore High School. He graduated from M.I.T. in 1995 with a BS in biology, receiving the Hodges Prize for outstanding thesis. Dr. Veys earned his MD in 1999 from The Ohio State University College of Medicine and Public Health. He then did a urology residency in Winston-Salem, NC at Wake Forest University, where he received the 2003 Gold Award in Clinical Sciences for his research on kidney cancer.

Dr. Veys began practicing at North Georgia Urology Center in 2006 and is board certified. In his free time he enjoys racquetball, reading, spicy food, bargain hunting and spending time with his wife, Emma, and their four children.
